The 2021 Moth Worlds came to a close on 7 September 2021 at the Fraglia Vela Malcesine on Lake Garda following five days of highly competitive racing. Over 140 athletes from more than 20 nations excitedly took to the water after the cancellation of the 2020 edition due to COVID 19

The Australian phenomenon, Tom Slingsby, was able to assert his dominance in the Moth Class by successfully defending his 2019 title winning every race except one, which he scored his worst result of the regatta, a second place. In second over was his sparring partner Iain Jensen from Australia, and Englishman Paul Goodison rounded out the podium in third place.
First place in the Silver Fleet saw Austrian Philipp Hribarr take the top place, followed by Frederik Just Melson from Denmark in second, and Luka Dogan from Croatia in third.
Zhik Team sailors, many of whom have recently competed in the Tokyo Olympics, were amongst the top placing Gold Fleet sailors. British sailor and multiple previous Moth World Champion, Paul Goodison, claimed third place following a turbulent regatta with unfortunate gear breakages but was able to solidify his podium with many top-level results.
Following close behind was recently crowed Gold Medalist, Ruggero Tita, who narrowly missed out on the podium and finished in seventh place overall. Laser Sailor Phillip Buhl consolidated a great week of racing finishing in 16th overall followed by fellow laser competitor Jean-Baptiste Bernaz in 39th and Olympic 49er sailors Diego Botin in 44th.
This year’s World Championship saw an all-time record female attendance with 12 women taking part in the regatta. Josie Gliddon from the United Kingdom was the top placing female sailor, ahead of Jo Aleh from New Zealand and Franziska Mäge from Germany.
There was a strong local Itialian presence with the First Italian Francesco “Checco” Bruni securing fifth place overall, with the second Italian – Olympic Gold Medal winner Ruggero Tita - in seventh position, and the third local Italian sailor being Simone Salvà in ninth position.
