Very early on, he took up competing on Optimist & catamarans. In 2002, he joined the training center of the National Sailing School in Quiberon, a proven path to high performance sport and the Olympics. While progressing, Julien experimented on other types of boats and built a solid reputation on his results. In 2009, he turned to offshore racing by participating in the Challenge “Espoir Région Bretagne Figaro” and then set up a project to participate in the Tour de France of sailing in 2010 and 2011. 2012 was the year of his debut at the Figaro. He finished 8th at Solitaire du Figaro (2nd placed rookie). In 2013 he was named Rookie of the Year. In December 2012, Julien realised a long held goal, when he participated in the Sydney Hobart 2012 with the Peugeot/Surfrider team.
