Nathan was destined for success at the highest level from a young age, excelling in the youth sailing classes. Nathan won three ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship titles, including one with current crew Iain Jensen. Nathan’s ambitions were derailed in 2005 when he broke his back in a serious car accident driving between Sydney and Melbourne. After a lengthy rehabilitation Nathan returned to sailing and began campaigning for Beijing 2008 with Ben Austin. The pair came tantalizingly close to a medal in Beijing in a manic medal race in treacherous conditions. Post Beijing Nathan teamed up with Iain Jensen and the pair has been unstoppable ever since, winning three of the last four World Championships.

At the London 2012 Olympic Games Nathan and Iain were unstoppable, wrapping up the gold medal before the final medal race. They finished inside the top 10 in every race at the Games, including five race wins. Their gold medal was Australia's first medal in the 49er.

Away from the 49er Nathan has had great success in the Moth class, winning the 2011 & 2014 World Championships, in the A-Class Catamaran and is skipper of the Swedish America's Cup Challenger Artemis Racing.

Iain grew up sailing on Lake Macquarie on the central coast of New South Wales, gaining exposure to a wide range of classes. Iain competed alongside childhood friend Nathan Outteridge at the 2004 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship where the pair won gold. When Nathan went on to campaign towards Beijing 2008 Iain finished his studies at school and began university before the pair teamed up again in 2009. They had instant success, winning the 2009 49er World Championship, just their second regatta together. Since then they have won a further two 49er World Championships and have finished off the podium just once.

At London 2012 Iain and Nathan were at the front of the fleet all week, eventually winning the gold medal by an impressive 24 points. For Iain it was gold at his first Olympic Games.

Iain is wing trimmer with the Artemis Racing America's Cup Challenger, alongside Nathan.
