He’s done it again! After nine years away from the Laser class, Robert Schiedt has come back with a bang! He claimed his ninth World Championship in Oman after winning the final race. The 40 year old Brazilian started the race just one point ahead of rival and fellow Zhik rider, Pavlos Kontides. But years of experience and hard races granted him a flawless finish. He raised his Brazilian flag to applause from competitors and spectators alike.

“This feels more special than any of the other Laser Worlds I have won,” said Scheidt

“I am at a different stage of my life – being a dad and being away from Laser sailing all these years makes it more special.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I came back into the Lasers but winning the Worlds after a tough seven days means a lot.

“Rio is still a long way off and I shall have to see how my body holds up over the next few years but the next Olympic Games in Rio is definitely how I want to end my career.”

Kontides finished the race in 13th place to take the silver medal, while Zhik rider Tonci Stipanovic who was battling it out in the top 3 missed out on a bronze by just 2 points.

Congratulations Robert & Pavlos on taking the podium. It was an amazing race and amazing start to what might come next! We look forward to seeing even more thrilling battles ahead.
