A big congratulations to team rider Lisa Hickman on winning the Australian Kite boarding championships in Melbourne this week! She took home the prize in style and it was fair to say she was thrilled with the win on the final day. Fellow team rider Jordan Girdis also snatched a 3rd in the augural race for foils, another awesome achievement.

He and his prototype foil became part of Australian kiting folklore at Royal Brighton Yacht Club, and sailing legend John Bertrand was there to witness it. He had the following to say about the sport of Kiteboarding:

“This is just the beginning for this sport and this new class of sailing,” he said.

“These are very fine young men and women, enjoying the ocean in an exhilarating way. The future is very bright for them and their sport.”

The young Sydney sider has marked a defining moment when kite racing, freestyle and foils became publicly accepted by Australia’s most respected captain.

Congratulations to all involved and on an event that gets better and better.
