Zhik has been announced as the official clothing supplier to the Australia SailGP Team. Skippered by Australian sailing legend, Tom Slingsby, the team will be taking part in the all new, highly athletic global SailGP league, racing in cutting edge F50 wingsail, foiling catamarans.

A committed Zhik ambassador since 2004, Slingsby’s impressive sailing track record makes the Australia SailGP Team one to watch. The five times Laser World Champion, Olympic Gold medallist, and America’s Cup winner is heading up a young, yet highly experienced team of Olympians and AC sailors.

“SailGP is an amazing opportunity that aims to promote fast-paced, athleticism with leading edge technology, and to pitch world class sailors at the top of their game against each other,” comments Slingsby. “There is a natural fit to us having Zhik on board as our team partner. Zhik’s innovative approach to design, research and pushing the boundaries puts them right at the forefront of technical sailing apparel. This level of support will be a key part of our campaign to win the league.”

Piet Poelmann, Zhik’s CEO adds, “We are thrilled to be a part of the new SailGP League, and that Tom and his all Australian team have chosen to be supported by Zhik. Our roots are in Sydney Harbour too, and we see this as another exciting and challenging project to test and innovate new gear. This new event, the boats and new format look set for some spectacular sport, and our design team are already working up new ideas for the team, who will be coping with speeds of over 50 knots!”

Slingsby’s team includes Jason Waterhouse, Sam Newton, Ky Hurst and Kyle Langford, many of whom have grown up through the sport wearing Zhik gear.

The Australia SailGP Team will start their three year campaign, training in Sydney Harbour with the first round starting there on February 15th.
