The 2011 Rolex Miami OCR is the second leg of the Sailing World Cup and an important lead up event for Olympic and Paralympic sailing classes towards the 2012 London Games.

Members of the elite Zhik team dominated once again, taking home a fantastic 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.

In the Women’s Match Racing, it was an all Zhik affair with Claire Leroy and her French team mates Elodie Bertrand & Marie Riou overcoming Anna Tunnicliffe, Molly O’ Bryan Vandemoor & Debbie Capozzi from USA 3-1 in the best of five final.

Brazilian legend Robert Schiedt and his long time team mate, Bruno Prada absolutely dominated the highly competitive Star class, sending a strong signal out to his rivals that they mean business in the lead up to London 2012.

Spanish sail boarding champion, Marina Alabau continued her great run of victories in ISAF World Cup event, winning the RS-X Women’s class again, whilst French sailboarder Julien Bontemps took out bronze in the men’s.

In one of the more impressive performances of the week, the dynamic French duo of Ingrid Petijean & Nadege Douroux took out the 470 Women’s class and only had to sail conservatively in the Medal race to claim their Gold medal.

This partnership is really starting to show some form!

Argentinian Juilo Alsogaray performed well all week to take out silver in the highly competitive Laser men’s class, whilst the fast finishing Javier Hernandez signalled that he is coming back into form by winning the medal race and placing 6th overall.

The next ISAF World Cup event is the Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia MAPFRE 2011 in Palma de Majorca, Spain from 2nd-9th April.

“We are mighty proud of the results coming from our brilliant team riders”, said Brian Conolly, managing director and founder of Zhik.  “We had fifteen sailors finish in the top ten of various classes at this event, and we can see some wonderful progress as we heat up to some important Olympic selection this year”.
